I set up before dawn at Queen’s View on Loch Tummel — one of the most peaceful places I’ve ever been. Watching the light move across the water, the trees, and the hills felt like watching the world wake up in slow motion.
I captured a timelapse of the sunrise, not just because it was beautiful, but because I love how time and motion reveal patterns you can’t always see in a single image.
That’s something I think about a lot in my work at Heartland Perspectives Media. Whether I’m mapping a property or documenting a site from above, it’s about capturing change over time — seeing how spaces grow, shift, and connect.
Sometimes all you need is a little patience (and a tripod) to find the right perspective.
I hiked up Schiehallion before sunrise and set up a timelapse to capture the first light rolling over the Highlands. The view was incredible — calm, cold, and completely worth the climb.
What’s interesting is that Schiehallion isn’t just a beautiful mountain. It’s also a landmark in the history of mapping. In the 1700s, scientists used it to help calculate the mass of the Earth — one of the first projects to connect landscape, geometry, and gravity.
Standing there, watching the clouds drift by, it reminded me how long people have been using perspective and measurement to understand the world.
That same idea drives what I do at Heartland Perspectives Media — using aerial imagery and mapping to help people see their projects, land, and possibilities a little more clearly.
Early riser to catch the sunrise at this amazing view. I still can't believe this as the view out our front door for a week!
With winds over 65 mph, a storm was entering into the area. Despite the incredible wind, the views were still amazing.
Woke up early this morning to shoot for over an hour. It was a wee bit chilly.
